IBKR or saxo, which is better for investing in US stocks?

Hey Seedly! I'm looking to at either of two to invest in US stocks - which I believe is the most cost efficient compared to local brokerages such as Vickers, Poems, FSM, etc.

Also read that IBKR does charge a monthly USD10 fee if the trading fee for the month is lower, while Saxo charges min USD4 per trade. Over the long run, IBKR does not charge the fee when the account is holding more than USD100k

With about USD40k now and monthly 1k RSP, does IBKR makes more sense over the long run? Thanks!

Hey Chris! That's good to hear that you managed to find my question amidst all the rest, and hope the responses help you a little. To answer your question, I went ahead with IBKR in the end. To summarise my thought process,

Pro:

  • Spot rates
  • Low transaction fees (I'm investing in the long run but this allows me to buy in small small batches. So it ensures that I do not miss the boat if the price goes higher, or I could average down my cost if the price goes lower)
  • No inactivity fee for first 3 months so that's USD30 saved at the very least (yay!)
  • If we factor in the capital gains, we will definitely hit the USD100k much faster than the projected 5 years. Aiming between 3-4 years, and this could also push us to be more actively vested in the market

Cons:

  • The inactivity fee in undoubtedly an hindrance, but this could be outweigh eventually by all the above pros mentioned above (especially if you are looking at the really long haul 20-30 years)
  • IBKR is actually quite daunting in terms of the functions, but given that we are long investors, you could actually ignore most of the stuff. Haha but focus on the functions that are applicable for us.

My advice is perhaps you could consider opening an account with IBKR to play around with it. Hopefully it makes you feel comfortable.
Here's an extra goodie: an IBKR telegram chat if you need any burning assistance https://t.me/sgIBKRcommunity

All the best!

Hi Anon! I'm in a similar situation to you. Just wondering which you ended up choosing?

Hey Anon! I'm using IBKR Pro. The monthly fee wont't be a problem in a long run if you are trading. ...
