Depend how old you are when you retire. If you retire at 65. i dont think you need so much cash $2k is more than enough.

your kid all grow up, your house fully pay. No need to give parent anymore $$$. When you old, you wont want to go to those fanciful reasturant so oily, you probably eat more often in kopitiam or cook yourself because you have nothing better to do and you want to eat healthier. You probably just get rid of your car, and just take grab if you want to travel far. You also probably wont fancy those branded goods anymore.

unless you plan for early retirement, that is whole different story.​​​

Personally, I'm aiming around 4k per month, expecting to spend 3k but 1k for a bit of buffer, extra expenditures etc.
