I came up with the name of the Woke Salaryman on one of the long-ass cycling commutes I used to take. It was 20 km each way, so I had plenty of time to think.
Initially, it was called the Awakened Salaryman because I love the idea of someone waking up from their slumber, and springing into action and taking charge of their finances.
Woke Salaryman was initially just one article on Medium. I shared the article in the Seedly community sometime in Feb 2019 and it got quite bit of shares.
Then I suggested to Wei Choon that he should add some of his adorable illustrations – and maybe it’ll do even better if explained simply.
Wei Choon……sat on it for 2 months. Mostly because he was busy. But when he finally did it, our first post went viral with 6,000 shares – that’s when we knew we were on to something.
There was definitely alot of trial and error when creating Woke Salaryman, but most of this happened pre Woke Salaryman.
Wei Choon and I have about 5 years of content creation experience each.
Along the way we’ve made mistakes, got scolded by our bosses, faced rejection, were underpaid etc etc
Everything you see on Woke Salaryman today is the cumulative product of these experiences.
