How is TPG going to cover their losses by providing people with free data for 1 year?

Initially, I thought that it was a marketing tactic to get people to transit to using their data plans. But in order to do that, you have to provide people with good services. But their signal is honestly not that great in alot of places. So how will this convince users to actually stay and continue with their plan?

Its good market strategy to capture audiences first before fully implementation.

Hi

It is a marketing tactics since SG already saturated with 3 major telco and lots of minor MVNO, to get user to sign up and use , they try to provide free service first and test out their coverage while slowly rolling out.

I believe they use their $ made elsewhere, such as Australia broadband services where TPG parents company located to cover some of the cost here in Singapore.

However, the road to really become the 4th telco with paid user is a steep climb. ON the cost, coverage and why building underground and MRT subway still no signals,

Besides difficulties of MRT underground limited working hours and lower priorities, to limited space on building roottop for setting up stations, it is going to be very difficult for TPG to have decent coverage like a normal telco. While 5G is coming this year for prelimiary stages and will take time for the major telco to setup, where (m1 and starhub joinly roll out 5G) taking 1 license from IMDA, and Singtel on it's own.

While for 5G requirements, more signal stations need to place even closer than 4G signal stations, with all the MVNO tagging on the 2 holders of 5G license, my guess is that TPG either has to join 1 of the 2 5G license holder like the MVNO or exit like Virgin mobile in the past.

As for why would you and I continue with TPG with limited signals in most places, only 1 reason: Because it's Free. The moment they join the 5G license and signal station holder and offer services, they will have to charge since they will have to pay more. By then it's a matter how creative they price their plans and offer.
