Investing in long term will get better and positive results as short term is volatile with market fluctuations. Additionally, there is different fees like annual or management that will erodes your returns. But long term you are able to see a good return on investment with a good head start of $50 per month.

It would be better if you are looking at long term investment to see good results, it also depends on what risk level you are into it too.
