REITs

With Robinsons closing after 162 years... What does this reflect of the direction of the SG economy? E-commerce is the way? Retail REITs might not be the best?

Not necessarily.

While E-commerce definitely shows promise, it does not mean that retail REITs are dying. If you frequent the malls, you'll see that:

  • There are still many people about shopping.

  • You still see new shops opening up. For example, blogshops who started out selling online, expanded to physical stores.

So I wouldn't say that retail REITs are dying. In the case of Robinson, and to add on: Forever 21, H&M, etc, it has more to do with their business strategy, or lack thereof.
