Why don't people just buy bonds instead of fixed deposit? I went to FSM website and saw that DBS bonds are 4.75%. Isn't that much better since DBS will likely never die? ?

Need high amount to get invested in bonds. If I'm not wrong you're referring to corporate bonds.

Many of the bonds will also need a private banker’s Help to buy in meaning you need a large amount of investment or cash with a bank to be assigned a private banker.

Investment quantum involved for bond investments are much higher as compared to fixed deposits. Hence fixed deposits will always have a place in someone's portfolio
