Where can I find reliable free courses about investing?? I only know the SGX courses but I assume that it won't be enough for a beginner.

I've been trying to learn the different types of investments available and I more or less get the differences of each one, but I have a hard time trying to understand the more technical aspects, so I'm writing here so that I can hopefully get some help on where I can find free courses, or if you have any alternative advice to understand the technical aspects better it will be a great help.

As someone who started learning about investments while studying Accountancy at NTU, I know exactly how overwhelming it can be to find reliable resources when you're just starting out. While there are plenty of free resources available, I've learned something important from working with hundreds of clients: free courses alone rarely give you the complete picture needed for confident investing.

Here are some trusted free resources I recommend:

  1. Institute for Financial Literacy (IFL) courses - These government-supported courses give you unbiased, solid fundamentals
  2. MoneySense website - Singapore's national financial education program that breaks down complex concepts clearly
  3. Dr Wealth blog - While they have paid courses, their blog offers great free content about Singapore-specific investing

But here's what most people miss: the challenge isn't finding information - it's understanding how to apply it to your unique situation. Technical concepts become much clearer when you see how they connect to your personal goals and life stage.

I often see beginners getting caught up in technical indicators and complex trading strategies before understanding the basics of building a solid portfolio. Start with the fundamentals: know your goals, understand your risk tolerance, and have a clear timeline before diving into the technical details.

Based on my experience helping professionals build their investment portfolios, here's what works:

  1. Get comfortable with basic financial concepts through MoneySense
  2. Take the SGX courses - they're surprisingly good for fundamentals
  3. Join investment communities on Telegram or Facebook to learn from others
  4. Most importantly, create a learning plan that matches your life goals

Remember, investing is just one piece of your financial picture. The most successful investors I work with take a holistic approach, considering how their investments work alongside their insurance, estate planning, and major life events.

If you'd like to learn more about building an investment strategy that fits your life goals, I share practical tips and real client stories (with permission) on my Instagram @ngooooied. I focus especially on helping professionals navigate investments alongside major life changes like marriage, buying property, and career moves.

The secret to successful investing isn't knowing everything - it's having a clear strategy that works for your specific situation.

Just borrow a few well know books to read.
