I intend to continue working as long as I can. However, I intend not to continue working full-time hours if I reach a age where I get more physically weak, and simply just work 1 or 2 days. There are many things I enjoy doing which include doing meaningful work that can help serve the community - I once ask myself: What kind of life would I want to live so that I will not regret if I were to die tomorrow?, and part of my answer to myself was: I want to contribute meaningfully to the world, to make the world more beautiful so that my journey on earth is not in vain, instead it's a journey of growing 'beautiful flowers', and to do this, staying active and continuing to be engaged in meaningful work is important.

I'm 45 years old and 5 years retired. I am a full-time househusband and my income source is from stock dividends. Quite enough as I am a person with simple needs and my HDB loans are all paid up.

Looking back, I think it was a rather silly decision to cut off from working altogether and being socially active. I am quite an introvert and yet 5 years down the road now... I regret making that decision. I seem to be going through depression and have suffered from serious anxiety attacks recently.

I think I might need to visit IMH soon.

The decision of when to retire is a deeply personal one and varies greatly from person to person. There's no one-size-fits-all answer. Some individuals choose to retire at 55, while others opt to work for as long as they can, well into their 60s or even 70s. Each choice comes with its own considerations and motivations.
Retiring at 55 can provide the opportunity to enjoy more leisure time, pursue hobbies, and spend quality time with family. It may also align with financial plans and savings goals if one has built a substantial retirement fund.
On the other hand, choosing to work longer can be driven by various factors. Some people find fulfillment and purpose in their work and wish to continue contributing to their field or community. Financial considerations also play a role; working longer can enhance retirement savings, Social Security benefits, and overall financial security.
The key is to align your retirement decision with your financial goals, lifestyle preferences, and health considerations. It's advisable to consult with a financial advisor who can help you create a retirement plan tailored to your specific needs and aspirations. Ultimately, the right time to retire is a personal choice that should reflect your individual circumstances and goals.
