Sometimes in buying insurance, or even in smaller things like buying toilet paper, it doesnt really make sense financially to buy a premium product due to it being so much more expensive than its lesser counterparts. However, in which scenarios would you follow your gut feeling and look past the lack of rationality simply because you feel the premium product is better?

The main thing I'm definitely willing to pay a premium for is food. I usually pick the most financially prudent option with usables like clothes etc.
In terms of insurance, its best to compare the payouts and T&Cs to find the best value product.

Essentially value is subjective and 'premium products' are usually not value for money but a lot of people still buy them. The easiest example would be mobile phones...how many people in Singapore still buy Samsung and Apple phones even though the specs do not justify the premiums paid.
So just be rational when you can but not to the extent where it makes you miserable.

See what you want. I think for those important one such as safety and security. It is a must to go for the premium. But for those daily use stuff like toothpaste, toilet paper all those, as long as i feel comfortable when i use it, I'm good. Not necessarily to buy the expensive ones.
