What's your preference - spend the miles to get a business class straight, or buy an economy ticket then upgrade it using miles?
My concern is that the process of redeeming miles for business class tickets straight is rather complicated, plus it is on a first come first served basis

I think you need to do the math to see which is more worth it! If you have the miles, might be easier to just go for business class straight in my opinion - at least to save the hassle.
