Reading “100 Small Money Habits of People Who Save 100 Million Yen” now. 100 wives each contributed their small money habit to the curation of this book. You would think that since this is a money book, they would dwell on high yield savings accounts or fractional shares or real estate. But noooooo, so far everyone has been sharing their good habits. Checking their planner first thing in the morning, introducing a sense of novelty into the everyday, even making your dishes colourful.
It now seems to me that the good habits that don’t seem to be related to money at first glance will help people curtail unnecessary expenses and build their wealth.
So, I ask you: What’s your best money-saving habit?

It's been a habit of me and my wife's to walk to nearby places (up to 30-45 minutes one way), if we aren't in a rush and if the weather isn't scorching hot - we don't only save on bus fares that way (which adds up to over $4 2-ways), we are also clocking up HPB points for the occasional supermarket vouchers!

My go-to money-saving habit is pretty simple: waiting** **before buying. Whether it’s clothes, gadgets, or kitchen tools, I give it a few days. That short pause often shows me I don’t really need it, or helps me find a cheaper or more creative workaround.
Sometimes, when I do need to buy, I make a habit of checking for deals first. Like the other day, I stumbled on a deal page for xTool on Zubile. I wasn’t actively shopping, but I bookmarked it just in case, it’s the kind of thing I’d only buy on a steep discount anyway. Little habits like that, layered over time, make a big difference.
