What’s a reasonable “baseline” insurance coverage for a fresh grad / early-career in SG?

Hi all, i keep hearing the same question from guys starting work after ns:

besides mindef group insurance, what else should i actually look at, and roughly how much coverage makes sense?

i found that a lot of guides are long, and most calculators either ask for too many inputs or give a number with no explanation. so i built a simple 2–3 min tool that gives a rough starting point based on life stage, income band, dependants, and housing loan, plus a checklist of questions to ask an agent.

it’s not financial advice, and i’m not collecting emails or anything. i just want to make the “first step” less confusing.

would love feedback on:

  • what do you think beginners commonly miss or misunderstand?
  • what’s one input you think is essential that i didn’t include?
  • does the output feel reasonable, or does it oversimplify too much?

if it’s ok, i’ll drop the link in the comments so it doesn’t feel spammy.

Hospitalisation policy and personal accident insurance.

Nice idea! A lot of fresh grads are quite lost when it comes to insurance.

From what I’ve seen, beginners usually miss a few things:

  • Life cover isn’t always urgent. If you have no dependants or housing loan yet, you probably don’t need huge coverage.
  • Term vs whole life confusion. Many people don’t really understand the difference.

For inputs, you might consider:

  • whether parents depend on their income
  • existing hospital coverage
  • any future housing loan plans

Most beginners just need a rough starting point and a short explanation of how the number is derived.

This is actually a really helpful idea, especially for fresh grads who are just starting work and fe...
