What happens if you have mutliple overlapping policies and require a payout?

Let's say you have a group insurance for health and a private insurance for hospitalisation. Does that mean I can only claim from one insurance when hospitalised?

You can still claim for both, in a sense that the bill will either be prorated and claimed from 2 insurers, or in another instance the bill exceeds the group limit which is usually much lower.

What you can't do however, is overclaim more than the amount charged for the total hospital bill.

These only apply for medical reimbursement related policies however, if you're talking about life insurance/ critical illness/ disability payouts, they can all pay out together.

For healthcare insurance, your private integrated shield plan is usually the last claimant. In this situation, you will claim from your corporate insurance scheme first. Thereafter, you may claim the remainder from your healthcare insurance. Above all, all the healthcare insurance policies will only reimburse up to the medical bill. In other words, if the medical bill is only $10k, then all policies will only pay up to $10k at an aggregate level.
