What exactly is a fund?

Hi, I'm a new investor here. I've heard of stocks, robos, ETFs, unit trusts but never really understood the concept of a fund? Wondering if you explain in layman terms what a fund is?

The definition of a fund is straightforward - a group of investors who share the same financial objective can pool their money and have it invested and managed by professional investment managers.
