What does the lot size means?

I am new to investing. I just opened standard chartered online trading account & wanna to trade CSPX.Β  lot size:1. May I know that the minimum order should be 1 or 100 as I know that a lot is 100 shares. If I only want to buy 100 shares, so I just key in 100 right?

@ slope game : In investing, particularly in stock trading, "lot size" refers to the number of shares that are traded as a single unit. Here's a breakdown of what this means for your situation:

  1. Lot Size of 1: If your trading platform indicates that the lot size is 1, this means you can buy or sell shares individually. In this case, you can place an order for any number of shares without a minimum requirement of 100.
  2. Minimum Order: Since the lot size is 1, the minimum order you can place is indeed 1 share. There is no need to buy in multiples of 100 unless specified otherwise.
  3. Buying 100 Shares: If you want to buy 100 shares of CSPX, you would simply enter "100" in your order. The platform will execute your order for that number of shares.

Summary

  • Lot Size: 1 means you can trade shares individually.
  • Minimum Order: You can buy as little as 1 share.
  • For 100 Shares: Enter "100" in your order to purchase that amount.

Hi anon,

Lot size depends a lot on which market and which counter you are looking at.

In Singapore, this will be 100 shares per lot. So 1 lot = 100 shares.

But then you also have the odd lot market which means you can actually buy lesser than that.

For CSPX, which is on LSE, the lot size is 1. So 1 lot = 1 share.

Hi there, lot size means the minimum share quantity for that stock per transaction and you can choos...
