What do you think about Singapore pushing to open its borders during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Should we even do this? And how safe is it for us to open our borders now?

Personally, I think Singapore has to pick up its economy now and can't wait for a vaccine in order to do so. We have had our cases under control and would be ready for Phase 3 soon, hence I think it is only right to slowly start reopening our borders again for business purposes and to get our economy going again.

Singapore is a small nation and are reliant on other countries to survive. So far, Singapore has opened its borders to countries that have had the covid19 cases under control. Yes, it still runs the risk of public health and safety, but we won't know for sure how long this vaccine will take and how long this "new normal" will last. We can only do our part to stay vigiliant and adapt.

To the best of my knowledge:

Singapore has a strong service industry despite having a small local market. As such, we need to open our services to international markets to keep our economy afloat.

There is definitely a risk in opening borders but the economic risk of not doing so could be worse.

I'm not able to produce figures and numbers, and I don't understand much, but what I (and you) can do is to keep ourselves healthy (eat well, stay fit), always have masks on when outside, wash our hands regularly and practise safe distancing.
