Before you start investing, it will be best to understand your objective. Here are some questions to help you:
What is your capital?
How will you want to invest your capital? E.g. lump sum or an amount on a regular basis
How long will you want to stay invested? E.g. 10 years
What is your risk appetite? E.g. How do you feel about short-term volatility?
What is your objective for investing?
Personally, I will study the business model of the share that I am interested in, alongside with any news about it, or related to it.
Additionally, I will study the annual report to ensure that there is nothing out of the norm.
Here is everything about me and what I do best.

I think for SG, I would only consider REITs and bank stocks. For the best, I generally prefer DBS, or resilient REITs that are in healthcare and retail.

None, most of the US companies beat SG companies outright in terms of growth. Why not consider Google, Facebook etc? Take a 10 years approach, you are likely able to make returns :)

The singapore government is increasing MINDEF budget like crazy and ST engineering being the main contractor for MINDEF is reaping the benefits. As evident by the fact, local revenue is increasing in tandem with MINDEF's budget increase by the SIngapore government.
Ironically while other ministries budget are being cut, MINDEF has been sustained or been increasing still, indirectly it benefits ST engineering.
