What are some unfavorable sales tactics you have encountered from financial agents? Share your experiences so that we can learn and become more immune to such tactics.

This may include instances where FA consistently push investment products during "review" sessions without addressing the genuine needs of customers. Additionally, some common tactics involve persuading clients to purchase term insurance initially and then, in subsequent years, asserting that their health coverage is insufficient, subsequently convincing them to buy an Investment-Linked Policy (ILP) to fill the perceived gap.

For transparency and for everyone's benefit, I think it's well known that all "FAs" (insurance agents) are commission-driven. They are not salaried workers. Also I prefer to use the "FA" because I simply do not think insurance agents deserve to be over-glorified for what their job is - salespeople.

As a result of their pay structure, "FAs" are ALWAYS incentivised to upsell you / tell you that you need more insurance coverage or more investment / that you need to sign more policies with them. Simply because of the fact that they only earn money if you buy something from them.

By pure logic, if they come and meet you and tell you that you do not need anything (even if that was the truth), that would be a huge massive waste of them for them, and I dont believe "FAs" chose this industry out of the goodness of their heart / for them wanting to be altrustic to really help people. As such, i think you and everyone else reading this thread would agree with me that they are profit driven - hence they will push you to buy something.

If you would like to learn how to plan your own finances without all these shady insurance agents that are profit driven - in the aspect you know how much insurance you need in terms of exact numbers, how to invest by yourself without going through ILPs which are absolutely harmful to consumers, do contact me via any of the links: https://linktr.ee/bridgethegapsg
