To get dividends, i understand i can only sell on or after ex dividend date. can i sell 1 day before after market closes or 12mm on xd date or can i only sell on xd market opening day? TIA!?

Another way is not to sell at all. When you invest in equities, it is for the long term appreciation and not for the one-off dividends.
