Syfe REITS

Hi everyone. I started syfe reits with risk management, invested $200 ain't much but I try out only. Within 1 week at the time of post. Market value drop instantly by $4.80. Is anyone stuck now with the what to do mindset? Should I continue to invest dollar cost avg or leave the money inside and wait or last but least ideal take out the money and lose now than lose more in the future.

Side now I am willing to leave the 200 for the next 5 years. As it is a small amount but I don't know if it will drop so much by 50%.

I think your concern now is similar to what I have when I just started investing. My friends also have your same concern when they recently started their investment.

Firstly, I think you should understand some of the basics and purpose behind investment and the various type of investment instruments available. Without any knowledge, you will have doubts when there is a drawdown in the market.

As the portfolio you choose under Syfe is REITs with Risk Management, have you read through the details and the investment target/goals that the portfolio trying to help you to achieve and does it incline with what you want?

From what I know this portfolio invest in iEdge S-REIT Leaders Index SGD together with bonds (as to reduce the risk from REITs). I believe the purpose of this portfolio is to allow people who are looking to invest in Singapore REITs for dividends while reducing their risk via bonds.

In terms of mindset, you can look at 2 perspective.

  1. Looking to earn a substantial amount of dividend from this portfolio and willing to take the risk to DCA over a long term. Because leaving an amount of $200, if you got a return of 10% I think you will feel that it is not significant enough to cover anything.
  2. Take out the money and look for Fixed Deposit with much lesser potential returns.

Do note that to do some research and understand the risk before you invest. And invest the amount you are comfortable with.

If you have only 200 spare to invest I naively assume you are young; having very looooong investment horizon. I will recommend you drop this REIT plan and go long with 100% equity next five years; provided that you commit to what you said, 200 mthly for next 5 years.

  • You have to make a decision by yourself. I can only highlight the risk.

*What is the main risk?...
