Some of us may not even know that Singapore relies so much on foreign workers to power our economy if not for COVID-19. Do you think Singapore can rely less on foreign workers?

Will Singaporeans be willing to take up these jobs? Can technology be able to curb this ever growing demand for foreign workers? What are your thoughts?

Hi Anon!

Honestly, I don't think Singapore can rely less on foreign workers as they take up 36% of Singapore's workforce and are doing low wage jobs that Singaporeans probably don't want to do. Jobs like construction work and domestic work are professions that require high effort, yet low wage.

One day, technology will probably find a way to take over these jobs through AI but I don't think that will happen in the near future?
