Singlife multipay ci

Hi I'm offered Singlife multipay CI standard terms despite exclusions from other insurers due to pre existing cysts. Wrote to Singlife and their underwriter replied that the underwriting differs among insurers & medical documents were reviewed. If there is a claim, the claim will be assessed and wouldn't be denied unreasonably.

Is there any catch to this? Perhaps someone from the industry can share thoughts on this. Has anyone made claims from Singlife? Saw a lot of negative feedback on Google review - claims were slow, roadblocks thrown, etc. Although the multipay from Singlife is recommended as one of the top Ci plans, it would be good to hear different viewpoints before I decide. Pls help!

Hi Alvin,

Yes, underwriting does differ slightly from insurer to insurer.

There's really no catch to it. What's important is that you've declared whatever was material to the application and let the underwriting team decide. If they have said yes, and you incept the policy, they cannot walk back their decision.

In general, if you have a policy that's facing exclusion/loading, but another insurer has accepted it at standard, you can take the acceptance letter and show it to the insurer that's excluding or loading you. This may force them to revise their decision. It's happened before to many of my clients. However its not a guarantee.

Now, the most important thing which I don't see anyone talk about is the post underwriting process. After a policy incepts, if a claim is made, insurers will do their checks, and if something is discovered that would have a material effect on the policy and claim payout, your claim could still be denied. They'll likely then deny claims and issue an endorsement to your policy if that's the case.

So ultimately, you have to make relevant declarations at the point of application based on the questions. Once you've done that, it's on the insurer to assess your application.

Some conditions will of course lead to exclusions regardless of insurer, however this doesn't seem to be the case for you.

Quite normal, happened to me also. GE excluded me but AIA accepted.

Funny thing is after I told GE about it, they suddenly accepted me also. It's just business, don't take it personally.

So go back and tell the other insurers about this and give them 2 weeks to give you a new offer before deciding to go with Singlife.
