Single 35 yo if buy resale flat first, can still apply bto as single?

Single 35 yo if buy resale flat first, can still apply bto as single ? or must sell off resale before applying? or just need to sell off before the bto collection of key?

Iirc you need to sell off within 6months of bto collection of keys.
