Should i still get a PA insurance if I'm already covered by my company?

Hello, prior to joining my current company, i bought a PA insurance by SOMPO. For my current company, every employee is covered under the PA insurance by AVIVA. My SOMPO PA is due for renewal soon and i'm not sure if I should continue to renew my SOMPO PA insurance and whether its necessary for me to be covered under two PA insurance? Appreciate any advice, thanks!

Hi JC,

Very likely there are some areas of coverage that Aviva may have that SOMPO doesn't cover, and vice versa.

Most group PA plans are generally not as comprehensive as individual PA plans. I would suggest that you list the benefits provided by your company's PA plan and compare against SOMPO. Whatever SOMPO covers that Aviva doesn't, you need to ask if you are ok to pay the premium to continue to get this coverage. If there is little overlap, you might want to keep your personal PA plan, especially if it is relatively cheap. Do note that you should check your amount of benefits as well, not just what is covered and what is not.

Firstly, we need to find out the coverage that is provided by your company. For this purpose, check with your HR to get a copy of the briefing slides or details of your employee benefit.

Generally, it is good to have your own personal accident plan. This is because it is likely to provide more comprehensive benefit than most corporate insurance scheme.

However, in order not to duplicate the coverage, we wil need to check your coverage first. This helps us to make the right decision.
