As a soon-to-be enlist male (soon graduating from Poly). I'm thinking of getting my own phone line as a stepping stone to begin my self-sustainable lifestyle without my parents' help, should I get a mobile plan with a subsidised phone (StarHub 4G $55 2yr plan), on the assumption that the phone I'll get every 2yr, either use as new phone, act as spare or sell it. Any opinion, suggestions, etc?

I have worked out the math before on signing up for a mobile plan with a subsidized phone vs a SIM only plan.
It may differ from which phone models you are looking at, but typically the SIM Only plan will give you better bang for your buck and will not tie you to such a long contract.
With the 3 main telcos and many new players on the horizon, it might be prudent not to tie yourself down to a 24 month term as there will always be better mobile plans just around the corner.
