Hello, i am a fresh uni grad with a banking role in the government sector. Work life balance is great, pay is 3.4k before CPF. However i know that salary/ job promotions are not given by merit but by number of years worked. At 23, would you recommend me to be in a company working my butt off as alot of people recommend (slog now, enjoy later)? Or is it acceptable to be working in a slow paced environment im in, forsaking the promotions i could get if i was in the private sector? Thank you :))

If money is a concern, then choose the job that gives you the best remuneration. Since there is no choice and you need money for survival.
If money is not the main concern, then choose a job that brings about the most satisfaction. This ensures that you stay motivated and passionate to continue working for the long-term.
Above all, you don't need money to be happy. But you need money to survive.

IMO, i would choose the unconventional route which is the job that has a good work life balance. I would use that time to build up other skills on the side and when there's a better offer, i'll jump to the next company with higher pay.
