I have been given the offer to join a government sector for the better increment in pay. I am in split given the situation right now. I am not switching career path but for better pay and career prospect. However, being a gov sector this position is a contract position with offer to be converted to perm after 1 year, Although the HR alleviate my fear by informing me that this is a perm role, I am still worrying.. any advise?

We need to know your key area for concern.
For the new job, we can assess its security by understanding a number of factors, e.g. probation period, your ability to cope with the new job environment.
If you are confident on your new job, then there shouldn't be too much of an issue. Speak with your HR to understand the situation better, e.g. whether you can be offered a permanent role instead of a contract role for the first year.
At the same time, do your own research to understand the turnover rate in the industry and the company.

The HR already told you its a permanent role. he won't be lying to you for the sake of attracting you.... unless you are really super attractive ;)
Its a position in the government sector.
Government don't usually fire people unless you are really horrible at it.
I think you are very safe, especially when HR already told you its a permanent position.βββ
