I also graduated with an engineering degree work in an engineering firm. I have strong interests in the finance industry and have been making efforts to do a switch for the past 6 months. But alas covid came and companies are holding back hiring. Much harder to switch now. I'm approaching late 20s and I'm scared that I would be too old to switch if I can't switch now.

Felicia: Would it be a push or pull factor? Is there something that interests you that makes you want to change industry? Because I wouldn't suggest changing industry just for the sake of changing - there has to be an area of interest and a driving force. Companies would be very careful on hiring in this period. If you have a secure job now, you should not make a rash decision. If you do make the move, make sure that you are very careful in analysing whether the company's industry/nature of business/current condition is able to withstand the recession. Nevertheless, there are still companies with a demand now and companies which are pivoting very quickly and shifting strategies. The government is also playing a part by giving support to companies, so it really helps them a lot.
