Is it a wise choice to change job simply from being "tired" of it? I've been working in the audit industry for 8 years. I am quite tired of what I've been doing and thought about changing industry.?

I have a family to feed and my current job gives me the stability I need. But at work and in my career, I feel like I'm at a stagnant position. As I can't just change job without thinking about my family and my responsibilities, I am still at where I am. Any advice to help a bro out? Thanks man.

It doesn't sound like there's any external push factors e.g. abusive boss, toxic environment, lower-than-market salary etc. It sounds like the job is giving you sufficient cash to do what you want/need to do and sounds like stability is something you crave and (surprisingly to me) this job seems to give you that stability. One alternative is to jump to another even-more-stable place if stability is what you crave? In any case, APPLYING for jobs doesn't change your stability so i encourage you to go for a couple of interviews a month.

First ensure that you have sufficent back up plans or reserve.

Do something on the side to have a taste of other work.

See if there is a demand and prove that you are able to handle the work of the new industry.

Most people in audit switch to commercial after a point where they reached a certain level of salary/position which they feel comfortable with (or maybe they're just too tired). I assume that there are no more promotion opportunities since you've mentioned that you're in a stagnant position. If that's the case, it might be better to move to commercial which probably has more work life balance and pays the same. Are there any other pull factors in your current position/company assuming you managed to find a job which pays the same with better hours? If there are, and it makes you want to stay in the same position, considering taking longer breaks to rest before diving back in to work again.

Considering the current climate, it might be difficult to find a job but it's not impossible. I have friends who changed jobs during this period. Most important thing for you to do is to take action. No point thinking about it all the time and not doing anything to change it. Of course, don't quit without securing another job offer since you have responsibilities but be proactive in your search. It's very important to consult your spouse and get her opinion on this too. All the best!

Well actually you can consider moving across function but still stay relevant. Have you considered roles like consolidation or FP&A? might be less mundane than auditing!

First, current external climate not too good. I don't think that easy to find job during these times...
