Save or splurge? Either choice has its own happiness and misery

Agreed: splurging should be practice only if u have excess. It's a balance btw maintain happiness in life; u can't be having unlimited wants, prioritise your wants/desires. if u wants a big item purchase, save for it but also remember to save consistently for ur retirement too. In short dun live based on paycheck to next paychec.

Switch your mindset and you can get both. Want to travel/splurge on luxury, just control yourself for a few months and budget for it. You'll still get to enjoy the good things without feeling like you can't buy anything at all.

E.g. I'm saving for Japan trip, allocating $500/mth with a target of 3k. For the months I'm saving, I don't feel like it's a chore to restraint yourself bc I got a reward at the end of the road.

Like many things in life, I'd say go for a balance! You can save and invest while splurging every now and then.
