Recommendation for newborn hospitalization plan

Hi, I am looking to get a private hosp plan for my new born. I have narrowed down to AIA (with Vital health A booster) and GE (P signature rider).

Which is the better plan overall and what are the key areas/features should I look at to make a comparison? Thanks!

Sadly in Singapore, all these plans can change anytime while your health may not stay the same, hence you will be stuck with the one that you purchased until there is a new rule on changing of insurance company for shield plan to cover for pre-existing conditions.

Both AIA HealthShield Gold Max (with VitalHealth A Booster) and GE SupremeHealth (with P Signature Rider) are solid private hospital plans, but the best choice depends on your needs and preferences. Here’s a comparison framework to help you decide:

Key Areas to Compare:

  1. Coverage & Benefits

• Annual Claim Limit:

• AIA: Up to $2 million (with rider)

• GE: Up to $2 million (with rider)

• Pre- & Post-Hospitalisation Coverage:

• AIA: 13 months before & after hospitalisation

• GE: 13 months before & after hospitalisation

• Hospitalisation Coverage:

• Both cover private hospitals and restructured hospitals (up to B1 ward)

• ICU & Surgical Coverage:

• Both provide comprehensive ICU & surgery benefits.

  1. Deductibles & Co-payment (Rider Benefits)

• Co-Payment:

• AIA: 5% co-payment, capped at $3,000 per policy year with rider.

• GE: 5% co-payment, capped at $3,000 per policy year with rider.

• Letter of Guarantee (LOG) Limit:

• AIA: $100K for private hospitals.

• GE: $80K for private hospitals.

• (Higher LOG limit means less upfront payment needed at private hospitals.)

  1. Additional Benefits & Perks

• Child-Specific Benefits:

• AIA: Covers congenital conditions from birth.

• GE: Covers congenital conditions from birth.

• Alternative Treatments (TCM, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic):

• AIA: Covers TCM and alternative treatments within pre-/post-hospitalisation limits.

• GE: Covers alternative treatments within pre-/post-hospitalisation limits.

• Outpatient Cancer & Kidney Treatment:

• AIA: Covers immunotherapy in addition to chemotherapy, targeted, and radiotherapy.

• GE: Covers chemotherapy, targeted, and radiotherapy only.

  1. Premiums & Long-Term Affordability

• Premiums (Baby/Child Stage)

• AIA: Generally slightly lower

• GE: Generally slightly higher

• Premiums (Adulthood)

• AIA: More stable, lower increases over time

• GE: Higher premium increments over the years

• MediSave Usability

• Both allow MediSave to pay for the base plan, with cash needed for the rider.

Final Considerations:

  1. If you want higher LOG for private hospitals: → AIA

  2. If you want immunotherapy (new cancer treatments) covered: → AIA

  3. If you prioritize more stable long-term premiums: → AIA

  4. If you want an established plan with strong hospitalization coverage: → Both are good

  5. If you want a plan with slightly lower premiums at a young age: → AIA

Verdict: AIA HealthShield Gold Max + VitalHealth A Booster is the better plan overall in terms of LOG limit, immunotherapy coverage, premium affordability, and benefits. However, if you have a strong preference for GE, their P Signature Rider still provides excellent coverage.
