Saving Hacks

Question from the community: Can someone advise what’s the best way to “miles hack” if one happens to spend high 6 figures and upwards a year?

Been only spending through an AMEX platinum card, but I’m sure this isn’t efficient. The thing is that big-ticket purchases are the bulk of the reason for the high spending. And I need the charge card function as the credit limit isn’t generous enough.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Generally, the best miles cards are rewards cards that earn 4 miles per dollar (mpd) on various transactions, and the most common ones have a monthly spending cap of $1k - Citi Rewards, HSBC Revolution, UOB PPV.

Citi Rewards is best used for online transactions except travel, and shopping transactions.

HSBC Revolution is best used for online transactions, dining, shopping, groceries, and entertainment.

UOB PPV is best used for mobile contactless transactions and online shopping/food transactions.

For big ticket purchases, you can consider OCBC Titanium for shopping expenses - it earns 4 mpd and adopts an annual cap of $12k rather than a monthly cap of $1k.

I believe there are also Visa Infinite cards from various banks that will earn 4 mpd if you meet a monthly spend of $2k+ like UOB and HSBC, but I'm not too clear on the details since I'm too broke for these cards.

As a final option, you can also go for general miles cards that have no spend cap but only earn miles at lower rates, like Citi Prestige at 1.3 mpd, UOB PRIVI miles at 1.4 mpd, or DBS Altitude at 1.2 mpd but earns up to 3 mpd for online hotel and flight transactions.
