If you are the policy owner and your son is the insured party for the critical illness (CI) plan, it's important to understand the terms and conditions of the policy.

In the event of your death, the impact on the CI plan will depend on the specific details outlined in the policy. the policy will continue to run until the next premium is due, then some policies may involve one the following options:
A) a change in the ownership of the policy,
B) provisions to ensure that coverage continues for the insured individual. For example, if there is a way to fund the premiums, then the policy will continue.

C) a waiver rider upon death, with all future premiums waived.

It is best to state your intentions clearly in your will, take a look at this article for more information.

Hi anon,

No, the policy will continue to run until the next premium is due.

At that point, if there is a way to fund the premiums, then the policy will continue.

If there is a waiver rider upon death, then all future premiums are typically waived.

The question you should ask is, did you add a waiver rider? If so, what is the trigger event to waive? Is it only upon death? Or death/TPD/CI?

Plan terminates if you did not pay. so in a sense, if you die, no payments made, then plan will term...
