My neighbour upstairs has been pouring water down and it's super inconsiderate because I live right below and water spills into my wooden flooring too through the window. Should I confront them?

How do I do it amicably and the right way?

The first step would be to tactfully inform your neighbour of your concern and hope they will able to redress the issue privately between both parties.

If this approach does not work out, you can use the services from the Community Mediation Centre. The caveat here is that both parties have to be willing to participate.

The last scenario which should be avoided unless absolutely necessary is the Community Disputes Resolution Tribunal (CDRT) as part of the States Court. Ideally, you should only reach this step if you have exhausted all means and there is consistent disruption/damages to your life/property since this can affect your long term relationship with your neighbour. Before filing for a report, you will need evidence which can be in the form of photographs or video recordings. The court may order injunction (stop doing something), or an apology, or damages (less than $20,000), or others.
