Let's discuss: Are our parents really not financial savvy or it is because they have limited access to sensible wealth accumulating instruments?

Let's go back about 50 years ago. in those days what wealth instruments were available to common people?

I suppose there are few, if any at all.

Even today, some of us find brokers commissions are very high. Relatively, our parents would consider it is ridiculously high.

Safer, premium banking products will be out of reach to commoners, even today. Unit trusts, ILPs with the high agent fees will erode most of the returns.

Robo advisors were not available back then.

There is/was on a worldwide level a conflict of interest. Professional financial institutions often give advice to retail customers that is not in the best interest of the customer. Digitaization and better information of the retail customer led to cheaper financial products as evidenced in the current decline of overpaid mutual funds/unit trusts and - as in the U.S. - 0.00 USD brokerage commission fees. In the U.S. f.ex. a financial litteracy campaign was started for the general public.

Would also be good here in Singapore.

Ok, so just to add a little background to my question. many course sellers bring up the point of our parents being brainwashed into working for society blah blah, not having financial literacy skills blah blah and why we should buy their courses and enjoy "financial freedom".

Initially it made sense, until i started to hands on and wet my feet, I sort of realised that it is not as though our parents do not want to, it is perhaps they do not have access to.
today with technology and real passionate individuals (shout out to #1M65 Mr Loo), much more can have access to sound financial advices and products, without paying hefty fees and courses.

not going to name any particular robo advisories as not to be seen as advertising for them, but you guys know who you are and hope you guys will continue the good work of making everyone able to invest safely
