Is the ‘scan and pay’ function in Grab considered retail transaction?

For instance, if I scan the merchant’s QR code and it directs me to top up the e Wallet using my credit card, will this transaction be coded as a retail transaction? Or is it quasi cash transaction? I'm using Citi rewards Mastercard

No. It is considered as e wallet top up, and no reward for such MCC. I suggest you read up on citi reward plus amaze combo by milelion or HoneymoneySG.

It will be considered as a top up to an e-wallet and not count towards any rewards from Citibank....
