Is the performance of REITS correlated to interest rates?

To a certain extent. With interest rates expected to be close to zero and expected to stay extremely low, people are less inclined to put their money with the banks. My UOB One, DBS Multiplier accounts have revised their rates significantly lower. It does not make sense to keep all my money in the banks as they are not working hard for my 'retirement'. Hence, to a certain extent, REITs do perform better in a lower interest rate environment as they provide a much higher return.​​​
