Wanted a CC to go with my DBS multiplier account, but still a little unsure of how DBS Altitude calculate its points. From my understanding $5 = 3 DBS points, but the minimum spend is $1.67 because each transaction is divided by 5 and multiplied by 3?

Hi colourwheel123,
The reason the minimum spending per transaction to earn DBS points is $1.67 is because of how points are awarded. DBS points are awarded in whole numbers, rounded down, per transaction.
According to Milelion, the transacted amount is first divided by 5, then multiplied by 3, and rounded down to the nearest whole number. Since the minimum amount of DBS points required to be earned per transaction is 1, work it backwards, and you get $1.67/transaction.
Whether or not this works for transport transactions depends on whether transactions are accumulated over a few days and posted as a single transaction, or every single transaction is posted. My guess is the former, but I can't say since I haven't tried it out myself. Perhaps you could try it out with another DBS card (debit?) first and see how the transactions are posted. Or, if your transport costs usually amount to more than $1.67 per trip, like taking an express bus.
Hope this helps!
