Is it really more worth it to upgrade from the AMEX Gold Card to the AMEX Platinum Credit Card?

It depends on your needs and spending habit.

Personally, I don't use too much of their perks. Hence I will stick with the Gold Card.

It depends on your lifestyle.

If you fly very often, especially if you travel in luxury, AMEX Platinum might make much more sense despite being more expensive. It gives 5 points instead of 4 points for every $1 spent on flight purchase, the statement credits is more attractive and you get unlimited free lounge access (you can bring 1 guest in too), and you automatically gives you Gold Elite status with Hilton and Marriott. Not on paper are stuff like 1 free night stay at a 5-star hotel of your choice (you can use it for staycation), their private events where you can take home heaps of expensive wine and other products, etc.
