My enquiry pertains to corporate group insurance from a company’s perspective.
Any exclusion not payable under the policy should be shared in the policy contract/policy wording or other appropriate materials.
Such a standard safeguards the interests of the parties involved and ensures mutual understanding.
In our old policy contract signed with our preferred insurance company, we can locate a clause stating that the insured member is responsible for GST incurred.
In short, the insurer will not reimburse the GST portion of the medical claims.
I've included the extracted disclosure in our old contract with the insurance company below.
In the new policy (new plan with new policy number) that we signed recently, none of the materials furnished by the insurance company state that GST is excluded from reimbursement to members.
We approached the insurance company to seek clarification above but were told that “GST is generally non-payable as it is an exclusion under the corporate policy clause”.
Does it mean that it is up to the insurance company to disclose norm exclusion in the policy documents?
If members are liable for such an invisible clause/exclusion, are we subjected to more exclusion than we are unaware of?
