Hey there :)
Most health insurance requires the declaration of smoking status because smoking increases the risk of certain major health issues β which in turn increases the possibility of claiming from the policy.
When an insurer chooses to omit the need to declare the smoking status, they are effectively saying they do not need to know it to issue you the policy.
Policies like these usually have very low protection value and they are used for other purposes such as wealth preservation/accumulation.

Declaration of smoking status is a requirement for most life insurance products (whole/term life, critical illness, health insurance, etc.).This is because smoking increases the risk of health issues, thus the insurers will have to charge a higher premium to mitigate this risk.
