If I wish to open an account, can I still open US account instead of SG account? Because I heard SG account is not covered under SIPC.?

With the inception of IBKR SG, Singapore residents can no longer open an account with IBKR US.

IBKR SG is not listed as a member of SIPC. However, you can check with them if their custodian for US securities is covered - for example, TD Ameritrade Singapore is not a SIPC member but its clearing agent TD Ameritrade Clearing, Inc. is.
