If I am holding ETF and it consists of the individual stocks that I have, should I still hold that individual stock?

For eg, i hold CSPX, but also apple and microsoft stock, so should I still hold these individual stocks?

Hi there,

I think Maisul has pointed out a great point; why not?

We can certainly use a mix of both. Maybe one question to ask is...

Does the ETF provide enough exposure to the stock I like? You can always add on accordingly.

I personally use a mix of stocks and ETFs as well. My AAPL and MSFT are in one of those ETFs as well.

If you truly believe in that company why not.

People keep saying dont diworsify your portfolio and that is true.

BUT lets say you have an ETF that has majority position in apple. And you also hold inidividual position in apple, AND you think that Apple will appreciate in the long term because they have plenty of room to grow.

Then I would suggest to keep it and hold for the long term.

It is not advisable la to keep the same kind of stocks..... but then again, if that position is like the top 10 s&p500 companies then it doenst hurt to keep it and hold long term.

My strategy is to 50% ETF 50% stock picking. I get best of both worlds. OF course that 50% stock picking does not include stocks from any of my ETF holding.
