Saving Hacks

I'm a final year student with $38K school fees and my dad has paid for it first. Sadly, I only have about $1.5K in my savings now. What advice could you share with me that would really help?

I'm conflicted about what I should do better to manage my finances as a 24y/o. Right now, I try to spend less on unnecessary things and am freelancing to earn on top of my $500 allowance.

I know it seems I'm in a terrible financial state, and I'm pretty sure there are people like me too out there who are looking to change their lifestyle or habits to prepare for the future, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can start to save by planning and tracking your expenses. Begin by creating budgets for how much you will be spending on food, entertainmentā€¦ and save the rest.

I personally would also use a finance tracker app, itā€™s called Planner Bee. You can check it out here if you want. It has the budget feature that I use to see how much I have already spent relative to my budget, which helps me to stay within budget.

Once you start working after graduation, just save more. And you will able to see your savings grow. :)

šŸ’° First and foremost, create a budget and try to stick to it. Be realistic about what you can afford and track your expenses so that you know exactly where your money is going each month.

šŸ¤‘ Next, look for ways to save money. Try cutting back on unnecessary expenses and use coupons or discounts when available.

šŸŽ Finally, donā€™t be afraid to ask for help if needed. Reach out to family members or friends who may be able to lend a helping hand.

The list goes on on how to save money:

  1. Leverage on transport discount (but compromises on sleep)
  2. Reduce intake of bbt and all those high-end beverages (if you're a fan)
  3. 50/30/20 saving rule
  4. Reduce dine outs and hang outs
  5. Start on passive investments!
