I just got promoted in my new role few months back. However, a company that I am really keen to work with just reach out to me. Should I take the opportunity to go for the interview?

Will this reflect badly for me? I am working in the marketing industry and is quite a small market. I feel bad to leave so soon and also afraid that my boss may not like it. What should I do?

Your boss will definitely not like it, put yourself in his/her shoes.

That however, should not deter you from trying to understand what opportunities are there availiable for you. The question is why are you interested in this other company? is it branding/different opportunities/package ? You will need to find out the details before you can make an informed decision on what you want to do with your career.

Congratulations on your promotion.

Generally, there's no harm in going for interviews and in fact, it is encouraged to go for some job interviews if you have been in the same role for awhile to test your market value.

Since you mentioned that it is a job that you really want, I do recommend going for the interview to find out more about it, and explore it's growth potential. Remember when going for interviews, it is also important to understand the culture, and also the management style of the person you will be working under.

If you relationship with your boss is good, and you are worried about damaging the relationship, then it's really not about whether you move to a new role, it is about how you mange the relationship with your boss. You may even want to discuss your options and career progression with your boss if you know he/she is one who is genuine about your own growth and development. If not, then it might be more prudent to be hush hush about it.

How long have you worked for the company? if youre not a serial job hopper, i dont see how it would reflect badly on you

It is good to consider if such an opportnity is something that can only come like once in a lifetime. If it is not, you can always wait as such opportunities will present itself in future. If it is, you may want to grab it. Opportunity cost!

If you pass this interview opportunity, do you think you will regret it later on? If yes, then you h...
