I joined an MNC 6 months ago to do finance, but recently my boss instead gives me a ton of tasks like video, which is out of my job scope.

Should I voice out or quit to find another job because I'm not developing?

I'm a 26-year-old analyst who joined an MNC recently and my primary role was to do finance and analysis. However, recently, my boss has been giving me a ton of ancillary work to do, which includes planning for marketing events and doing video editing. Should I be flexible and accept this? But I feel like this was not what I was hired to do, let alone I feel like I'm not developing more core skillsets than was supposed to be finance. Need help from other people who had similar experiences?

Hello! i think there are other skills to be assessed when you are planning for marketing events which may include organisational skills, leadership skills which might be helpful in career progression within the company. So i don't think there is harm to develop such soft skills in addition to your core finance skillsets, unless you don't intend to stay in that company

  • 1st are you underpaid, at market rate? If yes, start finding new job, if not stay.

  • 2nd are you familiar with how to do the analyst job already? Becoz once you already know the process and how to do, most job are a routine not much skill development. If still not familiar, just learn it yourself during the free time in the office.

  • 3rd are all this chores very difficult and overwhelming? If yes, hightlight to boss if possible for more manpower to help.
  • Actually, is a good exposure, if tasks is not to difficult, you can put this in your resume. "2nd appointment" marketing executive.

  • i will just do it. if i am pay correctly and the "special" tasks is not difficult. Meanwhile, when free just try to learn how to do core by myself.

  • As long i know how to perform the job or i think i can learn the skill on the job. I will just put on resume and apply during the job search. No need to be too concern if current job never properly develop your coreskill, it doesnt matter.
