I know the amount is little compared to heavy investors but I wanna start small to understand about the market and how everything works first before committing to more risky and higher returns investments. Any suggestions are welcomed!

Before starting your investing journey, you do need to know what is your risk appetite and time horizon, and it's good to see that you are trying to start with less risky investment, these can be anything from preferred shares, mutual funds, index funds, ETFS, roboadvisor as mentioned. Even less risky investments would be annuities, endowment and CPF-SA/OA
However, there are some pointers to take note. You should not be comparing to "heavy investors" as everyone have different financials, they could be earning $10,000 while investing $3,000 would be considered conservative while as for someone having a $500 dollar allowance, investing $200 would be heavy for them which is considered more aggressive. I would suggest that you understand your cashflow first and then decide on what's the risk appetite you have. Hope I answered your question and gave you a clearer picture
