I have been in my current job for 1.5 years now. What do I need to do to ensure that I continue to be needed by my company instead of being obsolete?

I also see a lot of new people entering the company and my department, and they are all very intelligent people. How can I ensure that I don't get forgotten?

One important step that you need to do is to find your niche. What's the one field, or one thing that you excel on, what can you do better than your peers?

Also, don't view the new joiners as a threat. Instead view it as an opportunity to upscale your skills and knowledge, while offering yourself as a guide to others as to how things work and help with their integration into the company.

Good luck!

Hey anonymous, I was recently having a session with a mentor from a high management position (not in my current company). And he mentioned that it is highly important for us to quantify our work - be it 30% cost savings, doubled the work efficiency of systems, contributed to 15% leads or sales.

These help to put a figure onto the work that we are doing, as well as to show the value of your contributions. Not to say that anyone with these figures are indispensable, but it gives you a fighting chance to prove your worth to the company.

Having these intelligent colleagues/teammates could be a great learning opportunity. I'm sure you'll learn as much from them as they will from you with your vast experience in the company. So view it somewhat as a healthy competition which betters both parties at the same time. All the best!

Or you can find new jobs before they waive you off?...
