Omg, I totally understand! I feel like I'm spending so much every month too on 'essentials' 🥲 I recently got into thrifting though, after reading this article! You can give it a read too and see if any of the shops sound good to you. I find thrifting is a much more affordable way to get pretty good quality clothes :)

Something I learnt from my wife: when you buy clothes, don't think in terms of how trendy the clothing is. Rather only buy it when you are confident you can coordinate it with the rest of your wardrobe
just today, we bought beige shoes for my baby girl instead of the pink shoes dotted with cute flower motif. Because beige easier to match as an outfit haha

Indeed overall, females do spend more than males generally. Although I do know of some males spending lots on facials and clothes too.
It will be important to keep track of our expenses, prioritise what are more impt and set budget limits. For myself, my priority is the 1 to 2 mths once facial that I go for. As I still wanna look good and get my massage. Very importantly, find a facial place where u are comfortable and do not hard sell. If they do, have to be firm to avoid signing up too much packages. I also realised that when I have good skin, I can save alot more from having to buy comestics; eyebrow pencil and a lipstick is all I need now. I also try to drink more water and green tea.
I start to use clothes that can mix and match easily and are those classic pieces. So every time I want to buy a piece of clothing, I must think throu whether it can be matched with at least 2 other pieces that I have. Overall this also save time from having to think how to match the clothes each morning. Sometimes I get clothes from thrift shops and the prices are usually more than 50% cheaper than original. And for clothes that I no longer fit, I sell them on carousell to get back abit. 1 in, 1 out is a good rule to follow. If I want to buy something, it has to either replace one that is spoilt or alrdy sold, unless really needed.
Cutting down mindless scrolling on e-commerce websites also helps in reducing the urge to buy. If want to buy, put into the cart for a few days to see if it is still attractive to u. If yes, then wait till sale period to buy.
Anyway I am still learning too. All the best!
